Former boxing champion Miló Viki is opening up about the intense backlash she received following her appearance on the reality show Házasság első látásra (First Marriage).
Viki, who searched for love on the show last year, appeared on Mokka Tuesday morning to discuss the aftermath of her televised marriage to Janicsek Attila, which ultimately ended in divorce. The experience also brought a past trauma to the surface, leading her to seek professional facilitate.
Following the broadcast of the show, the former world champion received a significant amount of negative feedback online regarding her arguments with Janicsek Attila and her behavior on television, which she admits was painful.
“It was incredibly, very bad, because for thirty years I was a respected athlete, and I was told that until now I had been lying to the whole world, that for thirty years I had been able to hide so well how bad a person I was, and now it came out during the show,” Miló explained to the show’s hosts, adding:
So it affected me very badly, because I never received negative criticism. Especially hurtful was what characterizes Hungary, and that’s why women are afraid to speak out against abuse, because I received victim-blaming, the claim that I wasn’t telling the truth, and that’s precisely why people don’t speak out. I advise any woman who is being abused to raise her voice!
The former elite athlete subsequently launched a movement on Instagram and has since been able to educate through videos and in-person events. She was recently invited to a school with her colleagues, where they discussed the issue, and Miló also held self-defense-focused combat sports classes for children.
