A statewide mobilization day took place on Saturday, February 28, across all health regions.

The Minas Gerais State Department of Health (SES-MG), in partnership with Regional Health authorities and municipalities, conducted a statewide mobilization day on Saturday, February 28, as part of the “Minas United against Aedes” movement. This initiative aimed to bolster preventative measures against mosquito-borne illnesses, a continuing public health concern.

Within the coverage area of the Divinópolis Regional Health Superintendency (SRS), 44 municipalities participated. Activities included educational outreach, community clean-up drives, home visits, and dengue vaccination, all designed to raise public awareness about combating the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Ana Camila Neves Morais, the assistant regional superintendent of SRS Divinópolis, emphasized that the movement mobilizes the entire state in strategic actions to prevent arboviruses. “The objective is to orient the population about the elimination of Aedes breeding grounds, avoiding a dengue epidemic and other arboviruses, in addition to offering the dengue vaccine to adolescents,” she explained. “In all municipalities, mobilizations are being carried out and vaccination is available, including updating vaccination records.”

In Divinópolis, efforts focused on ten neighborhoods, encouraging residents to remove potential water-collecting containers from their properties. The central health post hosted a vaccination day in the Esplanada neighborhood, supported by a mobile vaccination unit.

Leonardo Jerônimo Ferreira, the general supervisor of Endemic Control at the Municipal Health Department (SMS), highlighted the strong community engagement during Saturday’s clean-up drive. “We had a strong response from residents. We reinforced the importance of avoiding materials that accumulate water, because this work needs to be a joint effort between endemic agents and the population,” he said.

The coordinated efforts included both preventative measures and direct medical intervention. Tércio de Faria Leão, coordinator of the SMS Immunization Center, detailed the range of activities undertaken in the municipality. “On this State Mobilization Day against the Mosquito, we developed various activities to combat dengue. Clean-up drives took place in the Northeast and Southeast regions of the city, and here in the Esplanada neighborhood, we carried out dengue vaccination, also taking the opportunity to update the population’s routine vaccinations,” he stated.
