Mining Training Consortium Formed in Quebec

A fresh consortium focused on mining training has been established through an agreement between colleges in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Thetford, and Sept-Îles, Quebec. The initiative aims to bolster workforce development within the province’s mining sector.

The agreement, announced on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, will see the Cégeps collaborate to create a unified curriculum and training program for the mining industry. This collaboration comes as the mining sector faces increasing demand for skilled labor, and highlights the importance of regional partnerships in addressing workforce challenges.

Details of the financial commitment to the consortium were not disclosed, but the move signals a coordinated effort to strengthen Quebec’s position in the mining industry. The consortium’s formation follows growing concerns about the sustainability of social safety nets in the province, as highlighted by the “Le communautaire à boutte” movement, which is advocating for increased government funding for community organizations. Courrier Frontenac reports that nearly one hundred organizations in the Chaudière-Appalaches region have officially endorsed the movement’s demands.

The development similarly comes amid discussions at the municipal level in Thetford Mines, with recent council meetings addressing various resolutions. Courrier Frontenac Plus on Facebook provided a summary of resolutions adopted during the March 2nd council session.

Daniel Duplessis is listed as the primary contact for Courrier Frontenac, and can be reached at (418) 338-5181, according to allbiz.ca.
