Miraflores, a coastal district in Peru, is increasing security and enforcement measures ahead of Valentine’s Day weekend, anticipating a surge in visitors, particularly with the temporary closure of Agua Dulce beach in Chorrillos. Authorities are prepared to issue fines of up to 5,500 soles – roughly $1,500 USD – for violations of beach regulations.
The municipal government announced a bolstered presence of security personnel, supported by the National Police of Peru, to oversee the nine beaches within the district. The increased vigilance comes as many Peruvians plan to celebrate the holiday on the coast.
Among the prohibited activities are the use of loudspeakers, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, and bringing large food containers or cooking equipment. While compact snacks like sandwiches are permitted, large meals prepared on-site are not. This move underscores the city’s commitment to maintaining order and cleanliness on its beaches.
Fines for littering have also been raised to 3,800 soles, or approximately $1,035 USD, as part of the effort to keep the beaches clean. The increased penalties reflect a zero-tolerance policy for those who disregard environmental regulations.
“The rules are clear and You’ll see economic sanctions for non-compliance,” a municipal spokesperson stated. The consumption of alcohol is specifically prohibited and carries a potential fine of up to 5,500 soles. The case highlights the district’s proactive approach to managing public spaces during peak seasons.
