Mexico’s competitive SUV market has a new contender with the arrival of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, offering a spacious and reliable option for consumers.
The model has been available in Mexico for some time and is part of the Outlander family, though it’s marketed as the Xforce in other regions. Despite being the smallest SUV offered by Mitsubishi in the country, the Outlander Sport distinguishes itself with its generous interior space – a key selling point for many buyers.
The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport measures 4,390 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,660 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. Ground clearance is 222 mm, and the trunk offers over 400 liters of cargo capacity.
Under the hood, the vehicle features a 4-cylinder 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, producing 103 horsepower and 104 lb-ft of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission. Whereas fuel economy is estimated at up to 21.3 km/l, the engine’s performance may be a consideration for some, particularly in urban environments like Mexico City, given the vehicle’s size.
Safety features include six airbags, hill start assist, stability control, tire pressure monitoring, and a rearview camera. The Outlander Sport also offers advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
The vehicle is available in two trim levels – SE and SE Plus – both of which come standard with 18-inch aluminum wheels, automatic LED headlights, a push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control with Panasonic’s Nanoe air purifier, a cooled glove compartment, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a six-speaker audio system. This level of standard equipment aims to provide a competitive offering in the segment.
The higher SE Plus trim adds features such as an electric tailgate, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, an electrochromic rearview mirror, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a Yamaha audio system with eight speakers. Safety is further enhanced with additional ADAS features, including front vehicle departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and front collision mitigation.
The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport competes with models like the Volkswagen Taos, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Kia Seltos. Its key strengths lie in its interior space and equipment levels. The vehicle starts at $466,500 pesos. A notable benefit is the 7-year/unlimited mileage warranty.
