Liverpool supporters are preparing to say goodbye to one of their most iconic players. Mohamed Salah, a Premier League legend with the club since 2017, will leave Anfield at the end of the 2025-2026 season, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year chapter.
“Mohamed Salah will bring to a close his illustrious career with Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025-26 season,” the English club announced Tuesday evening. The news marks a significant shift for the Reds as they look towards the future.
Salah Vows to ‘Never Walk Alone’
The 33-year-old Egyptian confirmed the decision in a video posted to his social media channels, standing alongside the numerous trophies he’s won with the club. “Leaving is never easy. I will always be one of you and this club will always be a home for me and my family. Thank you for everything. Through you all, I will never walk alone,” he said, echoing the club’s famous anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Since arriving from AS Roma, Salah has cemented his place among Liverpool’s all-time greats. The No. 11 has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances for the club, making him the third-highest goalscorer in Liverpool’s history. He’s similarly a two-time Premier League champion and a Champions League winner, adding a FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups to his impressive trophy cabinet.
A Decisive Figure in Premier League Triumph
But statistics only tell part of the story of Salah’s connection with the Liverpool faithful, who have affectionately dubbed him “the Pharaoh,” even during periods of less consistent form. Chants celebrating his exploits regularly ring out from the stands at Anfield, proclaiming him “the Egyptian King.”
Most recently, his 29 goals and 18 assists were instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League title run last season, earning him the league’s Player of the Year award. The club rewarded his performance with a contract extension in April, reportedly through 2027, according to specialized press.
However, the 2025-2026 season proved less successful for both Salah and the team, leading to speculation about his future. In December, he publicly criticized his situation as “not acceptable, not fair” after being left on the bench for three consecutive matches. This led to a brief period out of the squad, but his relationship with the supporters remained strong. Before his departure, he will aim to deliver two more trophies to the Anfield faithful: the FA Cup and the Champions League.
