Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei extended Eid al-Fitr greetings to Muslims worldwide as the Islamic Republic continues to be engaged in conflict with the United States and its ally, Israel.

In a post on X, Saturday, March 21, 2026, Khamenei noted that this year the spiritual season of Eid al-Fitr and the natural season of Nowruz coincide. He offered his congratulations to all Iranian citizens on both religious and national holidays.

“I extend my congratulations to all Muslims around the world on the occasion of celebrating Eid al-Fitr,” Khamenei wrote.

Khamenei also expressed condolences and sympathy to all families and victims – including martyrs – of the war against Israel, the attempted coup in January, the conflict with the US-Israel coalition, and those lost in security and border incidents.

“Over the past year, our people have experienced three military and security wars. The first was the June war, when the Zionist enemy, with special assistance from the United States and amidst negotiations, killed around 1,000 of our citizens,” he stated.

A statement read on Iranian television Friday, March 20, 2026, contained no audio or visual presence of Khamenei following the dissemination of his message to the Iranian people.

“The Iranian people delivered a crushing blow to it (the enemy) so that it has now begun to utter contradictory and nonsensical words,” Khamenei said in a written message for Nowruz, the Persian New Year, according to AFP, Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Khamenei asserted that unity among the Iranian people has been a source of strength in confronting the US and Israel, claiming that Iran’s enemies have been defeated by the nation’s solidarity.

“At the moment, due to the particular unity that has been created between you, our compatriots — despite all the differences in religious, intellectual, cultural, and political origins–the enemy has been defeated,” Khamenei said in the message.

Khamenei has not appeared publicly since being named to succeed his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike. He has so far only issued written statements.
