A French theater troupe will bring a comedic take on Molière’s classic play, “The Miser,” to the stage in La Rochelle, France, on Wednesday, March 18, and Thursday, March 19. The production, staged by Martine Fontanille of the Haute Tension company, features actors Martine Fontanille, Marie-Claire Vilard, and Maud Glomot.
The play centers around Sylvie, Nicole, and Aurélie, characters who find their workshop facing relocation. As they await news regarding potential negotiations, the performers reportedly engage in a playful, burlesque interpretation of scenes from “The Miser,” a work they may have studied during their school years, as a way to cope with their anxieties.
“The Miser,” originally written by Molière, remains a staple of French literature and theater, offering a satirical seem at wealth and societal values. This fresh staging promises a fresh perspective on the beloved comedy. The performance at La Fabrique du Vélodrome is expected to draw local theater enthusiasts and highlight the enduring appeal of classic French drama.
