Morocco Sees Strong Start to 2026 with Tourism and Export Gains

Morocco’s economy is showing positive momentum in early 2026, driven by significant increases in tourism revenue and a surge in exports. These gains suggest a strengthening economic outlook for the North African nation, which is increasingly becoming a key player in regional trade and travel.

Automobile exports rose by 19.1% in January 2026, signaling continued strength in the country’s manufacturing sector. This growth underscores Morocco’s position as a growing automotive hub, attracting foreign investment and bolstering its export capabilities.

The tourism sector experienced an even more substantial boost, with revenues increasing by 19.3% in January 2026. Total receipts from tourism reached 11.7 billion Moroccan Dirham (MMDH) during the month, according to data from the Office des Changes. This strong start to the year is attributed to increased international travel and a growing demand for Moroccan destinations. Le360 reported that the tourism sector is off to a strong start in 2026.

The positive trend in tourism is further highlighted by a separate report indicating 11.7 MMDH in travel receipts for January, as reported by Le Matin.ma.

However, not all sectors are experiencing growth. Direct investments (IDE) saw a decrease of 7.9% by the end of January 2026, totaling 4.9 MMDH. This decline suggests potential headwinds in attracting foreign capital, requiring further analysis to understand the underlying causes. Medias24 reported on the decline in direct investments.
