According to reports, the disruptions are part of a broader test of a system designed to give the Russian government greater control over the country’s internet access. The outages have been particularly noticeable in the Third Transport Ring area, but are affecting areas beyond the city center.
Increased security measures are too visible on the outskirts of Moscow, particularly along the Kyiv highway, where armed security personnel in masks have been observed. Enhanced patrols, including the presence of OMON and Rosgvardia forces, armored vehicles, and even machine guns, are also reported around the Kremlin.
Authorities are also reportedly inspecting manholes and other infrastructure points. Pickup trucks and armored vehicles equipped with weapons have been deployed around Red Square.
Sources indicate changes in the behavior of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is now spending more time at the Kremlin, including staying there overnight and holding secret meetings with unidentified individuals.
These developments signal a heightened sense of tension and perceived security risks within Russian power structures. As NBC News reported, residents are feeling “powerless” as a result of the disruptions.
