A motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries Saturday after colliding with a fire truck on the A1 highway near Wallisellen, Switzerland, police reported.
The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. As a fire crew was returning from a training exercise on the A1 ramp connecting to Wallisellen, according to authorities. For reasons still under investigation, the 19-year-old motorcyclist crashed into the rear of the fire department’s modest tanker truck and fell from the vehicle.
Emergency responders transported the injured rider to a hospital with severe injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the fire truck and other crew members were unharmed.
Traffic on the highway ramp was diverted to the shoulder until shortly after 4 p.m. While authorities investigated the scene. The Canton Police of Zurich, along with a rescue service and the Winterthur/Unterland public prosecutor’s office, responded to the accident.
