Rapper Naps Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for Rape
Paris – French rapper Naps was sentenced to seven years in prison on Thursday, February 19, 2026, for rape, with an immediate warrant for his arrest. The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on October 1, 2021, in a Paris hotel room.
The court found Naps, whose real name is Nabil Boukhobza, guilty of raping a 20-year-old woman while she was sleeping. According to reports, the woman had been with the artist and his friends before going to a hotel for an “after-party.” She had consumed nitrous oxide and cannabis before falling asleep and awoke due to the pain of the assault. Her account was corroborated by a friend who was present.
The court emphasized “the absence of consent,” noting that the complainant consistently stated she was asleep and that “the pain of the penetration woke her up.” This type of assault, committed on a sleeping or incapacitated person, is considered rape under French law, specifically referred to as a “rape by surprise” in the penal code.
At the announcement of the verdict, the victim reportedly broke down in tears of relief, while Naps embraced his wife, appearing distraught. The sentence was handed down by the Paris Criminal Court after more than four hours of deliberation.
Prosecutors had requested a seven-year sentence, and the court followed that recommendation, similarly ordering Naps to be placed on the sex offenders registry. The rapper has announced his intention to appeal the decision.
Naps’ lawyer stated that his client “does not understand” the ruling, while the complainant’s lawyer expressed “relief” and indicated she would prepare for the appeal process. The case has garnered significant attention in France, highlighting ongoing discussions about consent and sexual assault.
