Authorities are investigating a possible domestic violence-related homicide in Navarra, Spain, on Friday, February 20, 2026. The case underscores the ongoing issue of gender-based violence in the region.
According to police reports, a 28-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in Sarriguren, a locality within the Valle de Egüés, late in the evening. Investigators believe her husband is responsible for the attack.
The victim’s mother was also seriously injured during the incident and has been transported to the University Hospital of Navarra for treatment.
Police from the Valle de Egüés Municipal Police Department arrested the suspect shortly after 7:30 p.m. Following a call reporting the attack. Multiple patrols from the Foral Police also responded to the scene, and forensic investigators are currently gathering evidence and interviewing family members and witnesses.
If officially confirmed as a case of gender-based violence, this would be the tenth such death in Spain this year. Two minors have been killed in similar circumstances during the same period.
The Government Delegation against Gender Violence stated it is currently collecting information regarding the incident, sharing in a social media post: “We are gathering data on the murder by alleged gender violence of a woman in the Community Foral of Navarra.”
