Dutch police have arrested two men following an ATM explosion in Badhoevedorp early Tuesday morning. The incident is one of two reported in the Netherlands overnight, prompting a police investigation into a possible connection.

Authorities responded to the scene on Marconistraat around 3:45 a.m. After reports of an explosion at a Geldmaat ATM. According to police, the suspects detonated an explosive device and then fled on a motorscooter. Officers, with support from the Amsterdam Unit and a police dog, apprehended the two men approximately 30 minutes later on Akersingel in Amsterdam. Both suspects remain in custody as their roles in the incident are investigated.

A separate explosion occurred around 4:30 a.m. At another Geldmaat ATM in Landsmeer. While the suspects in the Badhoevedorp case have been apprehended, police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked. A witness reported seeing a scooter with two individuals heading towards Durgerdam after the Landsmeer explosion, and those individuals are currently being sought.

The incidents in Badhoevedorp and Landsmeer mirror previous ATM explosions in Laren and Amsterdam-Zuid, leading investigators to explore potential patterns. Police are appealing to the public for information regarding either incident, including any relevant camera footage or suspicious activity observed before or after the explosions. Those with information can contact the police via 0800-6070, submit a tip through a form on politie.nl/upload, or anonymously through Meld Misdaad Anoniem at 0800-7000. Case number PL1100-2026067274 should be referenced when reporting information.

The recent surge in ATM attacks has prompted a response from Dutch law enforcement. Police have announced they are taking “extra measures” to prevent further incidents, though specific details of those measures have not been released. The case highlights the ongoing challenge of protecting financial infrastructure from increasingly sophisticated criminal activity.
