Bayern Munich confirms Manuel Neuer’s injury is more serious than initially feared.
Neuer, before Sunday’s match against Werder Bremen
Bayern Munich has confirmed that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer sustained a more significant injury during Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen than initially believed. The German international was forced off at halftime, and the club’s latest update suggests a potentially lengthy absence.
According to a team statement, Neuer “suffered a muscle tear in his left calf” after undergoing “a thorough examination by the FC Bayern medical department.” The club has not yet specified a timeline for his recovery, but muscle injuries of this nature typically require around three weeks of rehabilitation.
This means Neuer will miss at least Saturday’s match against Frankfurt. A return for the Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund in two weeks is possible, but only if his recovery progresses rapidly. Following that, Bayern faces Mönchengladbach on March 6th. In the Champions League, Munich will resume its campaign with the round of 16, with dates set for March 10/11 and March 17/18, though their opponent remains to be determined.
