A woman in her 20s from Eksjö, Sweden, was critically injured after a fall of approximately 400 meters down the side of Mount Fuji in Japan, according to early reports. The incident underscores the dangers faced by climbers on the iconic mountain.
The accident occurred on March 9. Reports from local media indicate that the woman and a man from Modern Zealand both fell down the mountainside. A third member of their group alerted authorities, prompting a rescue operation.
Rescuers located the two climbers late in the evening, more than eight hours after the fall. Despite their injuries, both were alive at the time of the rescue. The Swedish woman was unable to speak, and the New Zealand man was seriously hurt, officials said.
Authorities have been notified of the incident but have not released further details. The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirmed they are aware of the situation but declined to comment further.
