Police and emergency services were called to an apartment in the Louis-Braille district of eastern Nice around 8:00 PM on Friday evening, after being forced to breach the door with a battering ram, sources close to the investigation said. They discovered a woman in critical condition. The victim sustained severe head wounds, and her skull was fractured. Her son was present at the scene and reportedly in a state of shock.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead shortly before 9:00 PM.
Mayor Expresses “Immense Sadness”
An investigation for aggravated homicide has been opened and entrusted to the Nice judicial police, the prosecutor’s office added. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, expressed his “anger” and “immense sadness” in a message posted on X.
He indicated that “the child” was initially taken to the city’s children’s hospital.
