The son of acclaimed director Rob Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the murders of his parents, Michele and Rob Reiner, who were found dead in their Los Angeles home in December. Nick Reiner, 32, entered the plea Monday in a Los Angeles courtroom, according to multiple reports.
Rob Reiner, known for directing iconic films like This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally…, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, a photographer, producer, and LGBTQ rights advocate, were discovered with multiple sharp force injuries at their Brentwood residence on December 14, 2025. The couple’s deaths sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond.
Nick Reiner was arrested the same day as his parents were found dead. He now faces two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance alleging multiple murders, which could result in a sentence of life in prison without parole or the death penalty. Prosecutors have indicated the case is “death penalty eligible,” Yahoo News reported.
According to court documents and reports, Nick Reiner and his father reportedly had an argument the night before the murders, though the nature and severity of the disagreement remain unclear. He was pictured in court wearing a brown jail jumpsuit.
The Reiners married in 1989 and had three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob Reiner also had an adopted daughter, Tracy, from a previous marriage with Penny Marshall. Nick Reiner, born September 14, 1993, has publicly discussed his struggles with substance abuse, including periods in and out of treatment.
Nick Reiner is being held in custody and is scheduled to next appear in court on April 29. The case continues to unfold as investigators piece together the events leading up to the tragic deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.
