Norda 001A G+ Trail Running Shoe: A Premium Price Tag for Performance

The trail running shoe market is seeing a surge in high-end options, with Canadian shoemaker Norda pushing the boundaries of price. The company’s 001A G+ model, recently tested, carries a $325 price tag – comparable to the cost of an Apple Watch Series 11. This trend reflects a broader shift towards ultra-premium running gear, where brands are touting high-spec, high-tech equipment at a significant cost.

Founded in 2021 by footwear industry veterans Nick Martire and Willa Leus-Martire, Norda aims to create high-performance trail shoes built to last. The 001A G+ features top-quality materials and attention to detail, including toughened recycled polyester laces. The company also emphasizes style alongside functionality.

A tester who put 50 miles on the 001A G+ found it to be stable underfoot with fine ground sense and reliable waterproofing. The shoe also excels in grip and is built to absorb high mileage. However, the tester noted the shoe’s bulk – weighing 11.4 ounces for a US men’s size 10 – and an uncomfortable heel cup.

Norda’s shoes start at $295, with the 001A G+ retailing for $325. The 001A is engineered with a proprietary Arnitel® TPEE midsole and a seamless Dyneema® upper, combined with an exclusive Vibram® soleplate. The company recommends ordering a half size up from your normal shoe size.

The rise of premium trail running shoes, like those from Norda, Speedland, and collaborations between brands like Hoka, Asics, and Adidas, signals a growing market for specialized athletic gear. This trend demonstrates a willingness among runners to invest in high-performance equipment, even at a substantial cost.

The Norda 001A G+ is available for purchase at REI and Huckberry.
