Norway’s construction and building sector is showing cautious optimism following a wave of bankruptcies, although the transport industry faces a deepening crisis. The developments come as political leaders are urged to accept action to support these vital industries.

Recent months have seen financial difficulties ripple through the construction industry, prompting concerns about job losses and project delays. However, there are now signs that the situation may be stabilizing, according to reports.

The transport sector is experiencing more acute challenges. One transport entrepreneur described the situation as “a crisis, terribly awful,” signaling significant distress within the industry.

In the Nordland region, there are fears that the area could lose its capacity in the construction industry, prompting calls for immediate political intervention to prevent further damage. The situation underscores the importance of these industries to regional economies.

Anne Lise Gjerstad Fredlund, a member of the Storting (Norwegian Parliament) representing Oppland for the Socialist Left Party, has formally questioned the Minister of Local Government and District Affairs in writing regarding the challenges facing these sectors. Fredlund, who was elected to the Storting in 2025, is a member of the Standing Committee on Local Government and Public Administration.

The construction and building industry has also been identified as one of three areas showing activity during a time of crisis, suggesting its continued importance to the Norwegian economy.

Fredlund was born in 1982 and has a background in local politics, having served as a municipal council member in Gjøvik from 2007 to 2011. She is currently the leader of Innlandet SV, a regional branch of the Socialist Left Party, since 2020. More information about Fredlund’s background can be found here. She also holds a master’s degree in pedagogy from the University of Innlandet, earned in 2020.

According to Wikipedia, Fredlund was a member of the Oppland county council from 2011 to 2019 and the Innlandet county council since 2020.
