Nothing Eyes 2027 Debut for AI-Powered Smart Glasses to Challenge Meta and Apple

London-based tech firm Nothing is preparing to expand its ecosystem beyond smartphones and audio, with reports indicating the company plans to launch AI-integrated smart glasses in the first half of 2027.

According to Bloomberg, the upcoming eyewear will likely incorporate cameras, microphones, and speakers. The device’s AI capabilities are expected to be handled primarily off-device, utilizing cloud integration and a combination of directional audio and visual sensors to process the wearer’s surroundings in real-time. This functionality could enable the glasses to translate text on the fly, identify landmarks, or provide contextual reminders based on what the user is looking at.

Known for its distinct transparent design language and glyph-lighting, Nothing is expected to bring its signature aesthetic to the wearable. While the device is rumored to follow a form factor similar to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, the company’s emphasis on bold, imaginative design suggests a unique spin on the hardware. This move signals Nothing’s intent to challenge Meta’s dominance in the smart eyewear space.

This venture is part of a broader wearable ecosystem strategy outlined by CEO Carl Pei. The executive has indicated that Nothing intends to move past its current focus on smartphones, bringing the company’s OS to a wider array of solutions, including humanoid robots and electric vehicles (EVs).

The move comes as the smart glasses segment experiences significant momentum. Counterpoint Research noted 139% year-over-year growth for the category in the second half of 2025. Nothing enters a market currently led by Meta, while other industry giants like Apple and Google continue to refine their own offerings, such as the Vision Pro and Android XR. The entry of a design-focused challenger could further accelerate the transition of smart glasses from niche gadgets to mainstream tools.

In addition to the long-term glasses project, reports suggest that Nothing plans to launch recent earbuds within 2026.
