To ensure the health and safety of both residents and visitors, the state of Nueva Esparta has intensified its preventative vaccination campaign against yellow fever across its healthcare network. Governor Maricel Velásquez announced the widespread effort aims to maintain the region’s protected status as the Semana Santa (Holy Week) vacation season approaches.
The move comes as a proactive measure, even though the islands of Margarita and Coche are not currently classified as high-risk areas for yellow fever transmission within the country. “Nueva Esparta has prepared and is deployed through outpatient clinics with permanent vaccination in all communities,” Velásquez stated during the operational announcement. Public health officials often prioritize preventative measures to avoid potential outbreaks, especially during periods of increased travel.
The vaccination plan is currently being implemented at 88 healthcare centers throughout the state’s outpatient network. This broad coverage is intended to strengthen the regional health system and provide reassurance to both local populations and the anticipated influx of tourists during the religious holiday.
As an additional control measure, Governor Velásquez indicated that health authorities are evaluating the possibility of establishing vaccination points directly at the island’s ports and airports. This strategy aims to detect and prevent any potential spread of yellow fever from key entry points to the island region.
Authorities are encouraging all community members to visit their nearest health center to complete the vaccination schedule and aid ensure Nueva Esparta remains a safe tourist destination. Maintaining high vaccination rates is crucial for preventing the spread of infectious diseases and protecting public health.
