Former U.S. President Barack Obama clarified his recent comments regarding the existence of extraterrestrial life, stating he has seen no evidence of contact with Earth, after initial remarks sparked widespread discussion. The clarification came after an interview where Obama acknowledged the statistical probability of life existing elsewhere in the universe.
During a lightning round of questions on the “No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen” podcast on February 14, 2026, Obama was asked directly if aliens are real. He responded, “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them.” He also dismissed the long-held conspiracy theory that alien beings are being held at Area 51, stating, “They’re not being kept at Area 51. There’s no underground facility, unless there’s this enormous conspiracy, and they hid it from the president of the United States.”
Obama jokingly added that one of the first questions he wanted answered upon becoming president was, “Where are the aliens?”
The initial comments quickly circulated in media reports, leading some to believe Obama had confirmed the existence of extraterrestrials. In response to the attention, Obama published a clarifying statement on his official Instagram account on Sunday, February 15, 2026. He explained he was attempting to adhere to the fast-paced nature of the podcast segment.
“Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there,” Obama wrote. “But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”
The former president’s remarks have once again brought attention to enduring conspiracy theories surrounding Area 51, the highly classified Air Force facility in the Nevada desert known for its history of secret military aircraft testing. The renewed discussion highlights the continued public fascination with the possibility of life beyond Earth.
