Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi has characterized the war against Iran as the greatest miscalculation of the Donald Trump administration. The conflict, he argues, has had a destabilizing impact on the Middle East and threatens the security of nations allied with the United States, including Israel.

In an opinion piece published in The Economist, Albusaidi, who mediated talks between Washington and Tehran prior to the outbreak of hostilities, urged America’s allies to intervene and help bring an conclude to what he described as an “unlawful war.”

Albusaidi labeled the war a “greatest miscalculation” by the Trump administration, outlining its consequences for both the global economy and regional security. The development underscores growing concerns about the escalating conflict and its potential ramifications.

Gulf nations, including Oman, have for decades relied on U.S. Arms sales and hosted American bases in an effort to deter potential Iranian aggression.

The relative peace and prosperity these countries have enjoyed are now under threat, Albusaidi wrote, as the United States has “lost control of its own foreign policy.”

“The question for America’s friends is simple. What can we do to extricate the superpower from this unwanted entanglement?” he wrote.

“America’s friends have a responsibility to tell the truth. That begins with the fact that there are two parties to this war who gain nothing from it, and that the national interests of Iran and America lie in ending hostilities as soon as possible.”

Albusaidi added that Israel appears to have “convinced” the U.S. That this war would be easily won—but achieving Israel’s goals would require the U.S. To deploy troops and commit to the kind of endless war that Trump had pledged to end.
