Samsung has begun rolling out the first beta of its One UI 8.5 software update to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, initially launching in South Korea and the United Kingdom. The update, identified as firmware version ZZC5, requires approximately 4.5 GB of storage space and includes the February security patch – a notable detail given it is now March.
This marks the first major software update for these foldable devices since their launch in July 2025, when they debuted with One UI 8 based on Android 16. Users of the Galaxy S25 series are already on their seventh beta release, illustrating Samsung’s typical prioritization strategy: Galaxy S phones receive updates first, followed by the foldable line and then other devices.
What’s New in One UI 8.5 and How to Install
One UI 8.5 is built on Android 16 QPR2 and introduces a notable visual redesign, featuring a cleaner interface, diffused blur effects throughout the user interface, and more refined dynamic colors. The quick settings panel is now fully customizable, allowing users to reorder, resize, or remove shortcuts. Galaxy AI capabilities are as well expanded with improvements to Photo Assistant and the Now Nudge feature, which provides contextual suggestions in real time. The update also includes enhancements for one-handed use and updated Solid Lock modules.
To install the beta, users must access the Samsung Members app, locate the One UI 8.5 beta program banner, and sign up. Once accepted, the update will appear in the device’s software settings. Samsung plans to progressively expand access to more countries, and if the current pace holds, the stable version could reach the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in April, though Samsung’s timelines are estimates rather than firm commitments. This rapid rollout of software updates to its foldable devices underscores Samsung’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the evolving smartphone market.
