OnePlus is expanding its smartphone offerings with the upcoming December 17th launch of the OnePlus 15R, a more affordable alternative to the recently released OnePlus 15. While positioned as a mid-range device, the 15R is generating considerable attention for possibly outperforming its flagship counterpart in battery life. The new model is expected to feature a massive 8,300 mAh battery, a notable increase over the 7,300 mAh cell in the OnePlus 15, and will be known as the OnePlus Ace 6T in China [[1]].

OnePlus is set to unveil a new mid-range smartphone on December 17, following the recent launch of the OnePlus 15.

Just weeks after the OnePlus 15 debut, the Chinese manufacturer is preparing to expand its lineup with a more affordable “R” model. This year, however, the mid-range offering could potentially surpass its flagship sibling in one key area.

A Massive Battery

The upcoming OnePlus 15R is generating buzz thanks to its exceptionally large battery capacity. OnePlus has been teasing the phone’s features, and the battery is the standout specification. While the OnePlus 15 already featured a generous 7,300 mAh battery, the 15R will boast an even larger 8,300 mAh power cell. This represents a significant leap, not only for OnePlus but also within the broader smartphone industry.

It remains to be seen whether the European version of the phone will retain this massive battery capacity. Manufacturers often adjust specifications for different regions to comply with local regulations. However, OnePlus aims to release the same version of the OnePlus 15R in France as it will in China, where it will be known as the OnePlus Ace 6T.

Beyond its size, the battery will also support 100W wired fast charging. Wireless charging, however, will not be available on this model – a compromise compared to the OnePlus 15. The increasing demand for longer battery life reflects a growing trend among smartphone users who rely on their devices throughout the day.

What Compromises for the OnePlus 15R?

Details about the OnePlus 15R are largely confirmed. The smartphone, positioned as a slightly less premium option than the OnePlus 15, will feature a next-generation processor: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

The rear camera setup will also be streamlined, lacking the telephoto lens found on the flagship OnePlus 15. The display is also expected to be less bright, although OnePlus states it has maintained the same focus on minimizing bezels to maximize screen immersion.

The OnePlus 15R will also carry IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications, providing robust protection against everyday hazards.

The new smartphone will be officially unveiled on December 17, with sales expected to follow shortly after. Pricing information has not yet been released. For comparison, the OnePlus 15 starts at €979, while last year’s OnePlus 13R was priced at €759.
