OnePlus to Exit Global Smartphone Markets in 2026?

OnePlus may be preparing to significantly scale back its global operations, potentially exiting markets in Europe, North America, and the United Kingdom as early as April 2026, according to internal sources cited by 9to5Google. The move, initially rumored on social media platform X, suggests a strategic shift towards China and the price-sensitive Indian market.

This potential restructuring follows the recent departure of OnePlus India’s CEO, Robin Liu, who has returned to China. Since 2021, OnePlus has operated as a sub-brand of its parent company, Oppo, a transition that included the exit of co-founder Carl Pei and the consolidation of key departments. The increasing integration between the two companies appears to be a key factor in the reported changes.

Analysts have pointed to rising component costs and a global memory shortage as contributing factors to this potential shift. The end of OnePlus’s partnership with Hasselblad for camera technology may also signal a reduced focus on the brand internationally, while Oppo continues to feature the Hasselblad logo on its flagship devices, such as the upcoming Oppo Find X9 Ultra.

OnePlus has stated it remains committed to providing after-sales support and software updates for existing users, but a complete withdrawal from key global markets raises questions about the future of its international community. The company currently maintains that “business continuity” remains a priority in India.

As of March 25, 2026, OnePlus phones remain available for purchase in Europe, the UK, and North America. The company has not yet issued a formal comment regarding the reported closure plans. This news arrives as smartphone manufacturers navigate a challenging global economic landscape and increasingly competitive market, highlighting the pressures faced by even established brands.
