The red carpet at the Academy Awards has ignited a new debate in Hollywood, as numerous actors and actresses appeared noticeably thinner than in previous appearances, sparking speculation about the use of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic. The trend is raising questions about body image and health standards within the industry, as the pursuit of a certain physique becomes increasingly prevalent.
Several health experts are voicing medical and ethical concerns regarding this trend. Drugs based on GLP-1, such as Ozempic, were originally developed to help patients with Type 2 Diabetes manage their blood sugar. However, in recent years, the drug has gained popularity for its ability to induce rapid weight loss.
Several celebrities drew attention for their slim figures on this year’s red carpet, including Demi Moore, Emma Stone, and Nicole Kidman.

Actress Emma Stone had previously been the subject of discussion after appearing with incredibly slender arms and sunken cheeks at another awards show. Demi Moore also faced criticism after appearing at a Dior fashion show, with many commenting on her extremely thin and seemingly unhealthy appearance.

Doctors caution that GLP-1 drugs are not without risk, especially when used without medical supervision. Commonly reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and severe abdominal pain. In rarer cases, the drug can also trigger pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, and serious digestive issues.
The term “Ozempic face” has also emerged, referring to a condition where the face appears more gaunt due to fat loss following rapid weight loss. Some patients also experience muscle loss and nutritional deficiencies.
Behind the scenes, Hollywood fashion stylists are also facing a dilemma, recognizing that their celebrity clients are now significantly thinner.
“You can’t tell an actress she’s too thin. They’ll say, ‘But she’s smaller than me!’” one stylist said, according to the New York Post.
Another stylist added that the pressure among celebrities is intense. “One actress sees another getting thinner, and then the other tries to gain even thinner.”
A Hollywood showroom owner revealed that during awards season, seamstresses are busier than usual. Even sample dresses in size 00, the smallest size, are often still too large for celebrities.
“We’ve had to create a compact atelier in the back of the showroom to adjust dresses as soon as they arrive from the European runways. Almost everything has to be taken in,” they said.
