Several films are gaining recognition for their creative achievements in makeup and hair styling, with awards season underway. One Battle After Another received honors for both contemporary makeup and hair styling, while Sinners was recognized in the period and character categories.

The accolades come as Frankenstein and Sinners are also nominated in the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category at the upcoming Oscars. While One Battle After Another did not receive a nomination in that specific category, it remains a strong contender overall with 13 nominations. Sinners leads all films with a record 16 nominations for the award show, scheduled for mid-March.

One Battle After Another’s hair stylist, Ahou Mofid, delivered an emotional acceptance speech, stating, “I am a child of two Iranian immigrants. I am first generation. I wanted to say this film meant so much to me. Paul Thomas Anderson wrote a film that was highly close to me, and we’re fighting, all of us for freedoms: for freedom of speech, for all our rights, for all of our women’s rights, for all of it.” She continued, “Today, one of the biggest protests to Free Iran happened right outside…I want to say that a movie like this can move mountains. It can make people realize how crazy our world is, but community is where we are going to thrive.”

Other television winners included The Studio and Palm Royale, which both earned recognition for makeup and hair styling. Saturday Night Live also took home multiple awards in makeup categories, and Dancing with the Stars was recognized for contemporary hair styling. The increasing sophistication of makeup and hair design reflects the growing demand for immersive and realistic visual storytelling, particularly as technology enables more complex effects.

Stranger Things – Season 5 captured the prize for special prosthetics, reinforcing the show’s reputation for elaborate creature design. Guild president Julie Socash praised the nominees, saying, “We are brothers, sisters and kin, connected as artists.”

The 2026 Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards celebrated the year’s most outstanding creative transformations across film and television, as reported by The Times of India. MSN also covered the event. Critics Choice announced that One Battle After Another won Best Picture on January 4, 2026.
