The head of an SOS Children’s Village in East Tyrol, Austria, has been reinstated to his position after being temporarily suspended earlier this year, according to reports.
The leader of the Nußdorf-Debant facility was suspended in January following allegations related to incidents that occurred before he assumed the leadership role. Two individuals came forward with serious accusations, prompting an internal investigation.
The SOS Children’s Village initiated a special investigation into the claims. Details of the allegations have not been publicly disclosed. The reinstatement suggests the investigation did not substantiate the claims to a degree requiring further action.
The initial suspension occurred on January 15, 2026, as reported by Tiroler Tageszeitung. Prior to the suspension, the organization had been subject to scrutiny following reports of violent incidents that occurred in the 1990s at the same facility.
In November 2025, the Tiroler Kinder- und Jugendanwaltschaft (Tirol Children and Youth Advocacy) reported receiving information regarding potential further cases of abuse at the East Tyrol location, as detailed in another report by Tiroler Tageszeitung. Two individuals contacted the advocacy group with reports of experiencing violence at the facility, with incidents dating back to 1995.
The SOS Children’s Village in East Tyrol has been regularly visited twice a year by the Tiroler Kinder- und Jugendanwaltschaft since 2015.
