Paolo Guerrero was at the center of attention following Alianza Lima’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo Garcilaso in the sixth matchday of the Liga 1 Apertura tournament. Beyond the controversy surrounding a spectacular goal from midfield that was disallowed, the veteran forward faced a tense situation upon his arrival in the capital.
While near Jorge Chávez Airport and speaking with the media, several fans began calling out the 42-year-traditional’s name. Yet, the striker was visibly unhappy when one fan referred to him as ‘Paolín.’

Guerrero also voiced his frustration regarding the controversial call to disallow his goal while speaking to reporters.
“It’s ‘crazy,’ that’s why we are where we are. I didn’t commit a foul. Imagine, if that’s a foul, imagine… That’s why we struggle so much in international championships,” he stated to Teledeportes cameras.
“It’s unfair. It wasn’t a foul, it was a normal play, I knew I wasn’t going to reach him and he slipped. I went past him and I believe I scored a legitimate goal that would have given us a 1-0 lead and some peace of mind,” he added to the press.
