“This isn’t simply a healing drama. It’s a story of growth, following a family who unexpectedly moves to the countryside and, while living together, rediscover the meaning of family and locate true purpose in life.”

Actor Park Sung-woong shared his thoughts on the core message of the upcoming KBS 2TV mini-series ‘Symu Myeon Yeonliri’ at a press conference held in Seoul’s D-Cube City on March 25th.

‘Symu Myeon Yeonliri’ centers on an urban family’s chaotic journey as they relocate to the rural village of Yeonliri and struggle to return to city life. The series promises a blend of heartwarming moments and relatable family dynamics, a popular formula in Korean television.

In the drama, Park Sung-woong plays Seong Tae-hoon, a former research institute employee who rises to a managerial position, only to be unexpectedly transferred to Yeonliri – a move he feels is a form of exile.

Returning to KBS with ‘Symu Myeon Yeonliri’ after a two-year hiatus since the 2024 drama ‘Gaesori,’ Park Sung-woong expressed confidence, stating, “From the moment I read the script, I felt I could portray the role of a father very well.”

Park Sung-woong will reunite with Lee Su-kyung, who co-starred with him in ‘Gaesori,’ and the two will play a married couple in this new series.

Lee Su-kyung takes on the role of Jo Mi-ryeo, a “supermom” who raises their three sons while supporting her husband’s career.

Lee Su-kyung shared that playing a mother was a new challenge, saying, “It was my first time acting as someone who directly raises children, so it was a big challenge as an actress,” but added, “As I had previously worked with Park Sung-woong, I felt very comfortable.”

Park Sung-woong responded, “I have a darker side, but Lee Su-kyung is endlessly bright and we found a middle ground together with our three sons in the drama.”

The supporting cast, including the family of Seong Tae-hoon and the village head’s family, are also expected to add to the show’s appeal.

Lee Seo-hwan plays Im Ju-hyeong, the “K-village head” known for his strong regional accent, and Nam Kwon-ah portrays his wife, Nam Hye-seon, as a middle-aged couple in the countryside.

Lee Jin-woo plays Seong Ji-cheon, the eldest son of Seong Tae-hoon who gives up medical school to find himself in Yeonliri, and Choi Kyu-ri plays Im Bo-mi, the youngest resident of the village, promising a sweet romance between young people in the countryside.

Director Choi Yeon-soo, making her directorial debut with this project, revealed a unique casting story.

Choi said, “To cast Park Sung-woong, I used the line ‘Will you be mine?’ – which he famously used when proposing to his wife Shim Eun-jung – during our first meeting.”

The director continued, “The defining characteristic of our drama is ultimately the ‘human touch.’ I hope it becomes a drama that feels as comforting and satisfying as a home-cooked meal, one you won’t get tired of.”

‘Symu Myeon Yeonliri’ is scheduled to premiere on KBS 2TV at 9:50 PM on March 26th.
