Techland, the company founded by Marchewka, is the creator of critically acclaimed and commercially successful game franchises including “Dead Island,” “Dying Light,” and “Call of Juarez.” These titles have resonated with players both in Poland and internationally, contributing significantly to the company’s success and Marchewka’s personal fortune. “We already had money before, now we have more, but it doesn’t really affect our daily lives. We try to stay grounded, so as not to lose perspective.”
Paweł Marchewka emphasized that he doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of others. The couple frequently opts for more affordable purchases, despite having the financial means to indulge in luxury goods.
“Of course, regardless of your financial situation, everyone tries to make reasonable choices. And we enjoy them. We don’t necessitate the most expensive things. Most people would do the same.”
He illustrated this point with a hypothetical scenario: “If there are two cans of cola side by side, one for 4 PLN and the other for 40 PLN, because it’s, for example, in a gold can, which one would you choose? If you rarely drink cola, you can afford both. It’s only 40 PLN after all.”
“It’s not about the 40 PLN, but about the fact that you are reasonable and know that you will throw that can in the trash after drinking it. Some people really think that because Jeff Bezos is a billionaire and has no way to spend money for the rest of his life—he won’t notice whether he buys a bottle of water for $2 or $2,000. Having such wealth is abstract. But that doesn’t mean their owners are idiots. Quite the opposite: they perfectly understand the value of money and don’t waste it senselessly,” Marchewka explained.
His wife added a final thought.
“Some people think that because Paweł is a billionaire, he can pay twice the market price for a purchased property.”
