Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will be sidelined for two matches after receiving his sixth yellow card of the season, following his team’s comfortable victory over Newcastle United to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The Spanish coach confronted fourth official Louis Smith on the touchline at St. James’ Park after Kieran Trippier fouled Jeremy Doku, prompting intervention from referee Sam Barrott.

Guardiola will now miss the Premier League match against West Ham and the FA Cup quarter-final tie.

“A two-game suspension now, I will be away, and I will go on holiday. Notice things after 10 years of experience understand,” Guardiola said.

He added, “Review the incident. Of course I will defend Doku and all my team.”

Pep Guardiola will be absent from the touchline for Manchester City’s next two games after picking up a yellow card during his side’s FA Cup win over Newcastle United on Sunday. The suspension comes at a critical juncture in the season as City continues to compete on multiple fronts. The incident occurred at St. James’ Park when Guardiola disputed a foul call involving Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier and City’s Jeremy Doku, leading to a confrontation with fourth official Louis Smith and a yellow card from referee Sam Barrott. Guardiola will be forced to watch from the stands as Manchester City takes on West Ham in Premier League action, and again during their upcoming FA Cup quarter-final match. Following the match, Guardiola expressed his frustration, stating, “A two-game suspension now, I will be away, and I will go on holiday. There are things after 10 years of experience understand.” The City manager also firmly backed his player, adding, “Review the incident. Of course I will defend Doku and all my team.” The suspension adds another layer of complexity to City’s schedule as they aim to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table and advance further in the FA Cup.
