Peru’s latest head coach, Mano Menezes, has announced his initial squad list for upcoming friendly matches against Senegal and Honduras, with several notable absences.
According to reports, players such as Guerrero, Tapia, and Advíncula will not be participating in the friendlies. The team is preparing for these matches as part of their broader strategy for upcoming competitions, aiming to refine their tactics and evaluate player combinations.
Menezes explained his decision to include Jairo Vélez in the roster, stating it was a deliberate choice to add balance to the midfield. “It’s to his credit,” Menezes said, according to Depor.
Similarly drawing attention is the inclusion of Adrián Quiroz, a player from Chankas. Diario Libero reports that Menezes believes Quiroz “equilibrates the midfield.”
Notably absent from the squad are Felipe Chávez and Piero Quispe. La República details these significant omissions from Menezes’ first squad selection.
The friendly matches will provide a valuable opportunity for Menezes to assess his team’s capabilities and experiment with different player combinations ahead of more competitive fixtures.
