Alberto Florián, the regional director of Health, stated, “We have 33 injured already recorded, including five in serious condition.” He added that the majority of those injured, including two minors, have been transported to local hospitals.

This latest incident underscores the escalating security challenges facing the region and the broader country. Peru as a whole is grappling with widespread crime, with 2,200 homicides linked to organized crime recorded in 2025, and a 19% increase in reported extortion cases, according to police data.
