Peugeot is introducing a new “Turbo 100” petrol engine for its 208 and 2008 models, demonstrating the automaker’s continued investment in internal combustion engine technology alongside its growing range of hybrid and electric vehicles.
The new engine, a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder, represents the third generation of this powertrain and incorporates approximately 70% new components. Peugeot anticipates the upgrade will enhance driving performance and efficiency.

The new powertrain will be available in the Peugeot 208 and 2008 models.
The engine is expected to deliver a maximum output of 101 horsepower (74 kW) at 5,500 rpm, with peak torque of 205 Nm available from 1,750 rpm. A key feature of the new design is a variable-geometry turbocharger, intended to provide improved responsiveness at lower engine speeds.
Peugeot has as well implemented a timing chain in place of a timing belt, and redesigned the engine block, pistons, and piston rings to enhance durability and reliability. The company stated that rigorous testing, including over 200,000 kilometers of operation, validated these improvements.
The automaker also projects reduced maintenance costs, with the Turbo 100 engine requiring servicing every two years or 25,000 kilometers, alongside annual routine inspections.
