A prominent figure in music journalism, Philippe Manœuvre is returning to the stage with an unexpected show: “Un enfant du rock raconte” (A Child of Rock Tells His Story). The tour will capture him across France and beyond, where the rock icon will share fifty years of anecdotes, legendary encounters, and moments ranging from hell to paradise, as advised by none other than Serge Gainsbourg.
To select the stories for the show, directed by Jérémy Lippmann, Philippe Manœuvre relied on a valuable piece of advice from Serge Gainsbourg: “A fine show must show paradise and hell.” The result is a successful, abundant, funny, moving, and always sincere performance. And an audience eager for more: “They all talk to me about a second installment!” But Philippe Manœuvre prefers to remain cautious: “Let’s do this tour first… And we’ll see after that.”
The show requires a return to the road, and the former editor-in-chief of Rock & Folk magazine hasn’t lost any of his enthusiasm: “Going back on the road is great. I have my minor suitcase, a little honey for my throat, and off we go.” Having toured with The Clash, Téléphone, and Iggy Pop, he’s rediscovering the simple pleasure of meeting the public. This performance arrives as live music continues its strong resurgence following pandemic-era disruptions.
Alongside the tour, Philippe Manœuvre will publish “Roll” on April 1st, a book conceived as a mirror to the stage show. It will feature his articles from that era, “Prince in Detroit, the Sex Pistols on a boat,” as well as personal archives that interact with his on-stage narrative. Following the success of his previous function, “Rock,” this new volume promises to turn into essential reading for enthusiasts.
