PlayStation PC Ports: Sony May Be Scaling Back Releases

Sony may be shifting its strategy regarding PC releases of its previously PlayStation-exclusive titles. While the company has steadily brought games like Horizon Zero Dawn to PC since its initial release in 2020, indications suggest a potential change in approach, particularly for large, single-player experiences.

According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, speaking on the Triple Click podcast, Sony could increasingly differentiate its release strategies. Live-service titles are expected to continue appearing on PC, while traditional single-player games may be reserved as exclusives to drive hardware sales. Marvel’s Wolverine, currently slated for a September 15, 2026, release on the PS5, is frequently cited as an example, as a PC version has not yet been confirmed. There’s even speculation that Ghost of Yotei may not receive a PC port.

Technical Performance as a Potential Indicator

Concerns regarding the quality of PC ports have also surfaced. Discussions at Digital Foundry have pointed to technical issues in some releases as a possible sign that PC versions are no longer a top priority internally. The launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, for instance, was publicly discussed in terms of initial performance hiccups and the need for subsequent improvements. This shift in focus could reflect a broader industry trend as developers balance resources and platform priorities.

However, Sony’s commitment to PC gaming isn’t entirely diminishing. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is slated for release on Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 19, 2026, a collaboration between Kojima Productions and Nixxes Software. Whether future blockbuster titles from PlayStation Studios, such as those from Insomniac Games or Naughty Dog, will continue to regularly make the jump to PC remains to be seen.
