Pokémon fans can revisit the Kanto region with the arrival of Pokémon Rojo Fuego and Pokémon Verde Hoja on Nintendo Switch. The games, originally released for Game Boy Advance in 2004, became available for pre-purchase on February 20, 2026, and are scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, coinciding with the celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary.

The digital versions of the games are priced at $19.99, £16.99, or €19.99. Nintendo previously explained the decision to release these titles as standalone purchases rather than including them in the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, though the explanation didn’t fully satisfy some fans. The move comes as remakes and re-releases continue to be a popular strategy for engaging established gaming communities.

Joe Merrick of Serebii.net has shed light on the reasoning behind the release decision, and has similarly confirmed compatibility with Pokémon Home. Players who enter the Hall of Fame in Pokémon Rojo Fuego and Pokémon Verde Hoja on Nintendo Switch will receive the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket.

A physical edition of the games is also planned for release in Japan, which will include a figure of a Kanto region starter Pokémon. Availability in other regions remains unconfirmed. The release of these classic titles demonstrates the enduring appeal of the Pokémon franchise and Nintendo’s strategy of revisiting its popular back catalog for the Switch platform.
