February wasn’t finished without the annual Pokémon Presents, held annually to mark the anniversary of the franchise – and especially significant this year as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. The presentation unveiled a range of announcements, but the most notable was the reveal of the new editions, Pokémon Viento and Pokémon Oleaje.
The new mainline adventures for the Nintendo Switch 2 were the highlight of the event, which likewise included updates for various mobile titles, the launch date for Pokémon Champions, and other surprises detailed below. The enduring popularity of Pokémon demonstrates the franchise’s ability to adapt and innovate within the gaming landscape.
Pokémon Viento and Pokémon Oleaje
The biggest announcement, eagerly anticipated by Pokémon fans, finally gave a first glance at the new installments in the series, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. Importantly, these titles won’t arrive until 2027, indicating that GAME FREAK and The Pokémon Company are taking extra time to refine the games.
This dedication to polish is evident in the first trailer, which showcases a significant graphical leap compared to previous titles. The adventure will accept place in a new region comprised of islands and diverse biomes, teeming with Pokémon to capture, and train. Confirmed starter Pokémon include Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua, offering players a choice at the beginning of their new journey.
Pokémon Champions
Players can now prepare their Pokémon teams, as the long-awaited Pokémon Champions has a confirmed approximate launch date. It will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in April, allowing players worldwide to battle each other with Pokémon trained in various games and transferred via Pokémon Home. A mobile version is expected to be available throughout 2026.
Pokémon XD: Tempestad Oscura
Fans can revisit classic chapters with Pokémon XD: Tempestad Oscura, launching on the GameCube with Nintendo Switch Online in March. This addition was anticipated with the announcement of Nintendo Switch 2, and will allow players to return to Orre to rescue darkened Pokémon.
A Retro Music Player
The Pokémon Company is also offering a trip down memory lane with Game Music Collection, a miniature Game Boy-shaped music player. It comes with 45 cartridges, each containing a melody from Pokémon Red and Blue, providing a portable soundtrack. This item is only available at official Pokémon Centers.
Pokémon Pokopia
With the release of Pokémon Pokopia nearing release on March 5 for Nintendo Switch 2, it was expected to have its moment in the spotlight. A new trailer highlighted its strengths, and revealed DJ Rotom, a Rotom that will function as a music player in the game, and Chef Greedent, a Greedent specializing in preparing dishes that grant special bonuses.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The developers have no intention of letting Pokémon Legends: Z-A fade into obscurity. Players with the Mega-Dimension expansion can now download a free update to participate in a special battle against the newly revealed Mega Garchomp Z. Defeating it will reward players with its corresponding Mega Stone for evolution.
Pokémon Red Fire and Green Leaf
The iconic Pokémon Red Fire and Green Leaf were also released today. Nintendo Switch owners can now access the eShop and purchase these remakes originally released on Game Boy Advance. Both have returned without changes, but all captured Pokémon can now be transferred to Pokémon Home, though they cannot be recovered.
Pokémon GO
In addition to Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, 2026 is also a special year for Pokémon GO as it turns 10. To mark the occasion, an event called “A Chance Encounter” will be held from March 7 to 9, bringing back a variety of older Pokémon. The code GOTOURKALOS is also now available, unlocking a temporary research task to capture one of the Kalos region’s starter Pokémon.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game
The Pokémon Trading Card Game is also celebrating its 30th anniversary, and The Pokémon Company is marking the occasion in an unforgettable way. Details on what surprises are in store are still forthcoming.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket
The mobile version, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, was also present at the event. The new Paldea Enchantments card set is now available, and players can earn rewards by logging in daily, unlocking up to 30 booster packs and special accessories.
Pokémon Unite
Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have joined the battles of Pokémon Unite. Players can unlock their licenses by participating in a new event. Meganium, Typhhlosion, and Feraligatr are also expected to follow suit in the future.
Pokémon Sleep
If you’re looking for a good night’s rest after all these announcements, you can do so with Pokémon Sleep, which tracks your sleep hours and spawns different Pokémon. Mew will be available starting today with a new event.
