Pope Leo XIV Thanks FADICA for 50 Years of Philanthropic Support

Pope Leo XIV has expressed his gratitude to the Catholic Philanthropy Network (FADICA) for five decades of support for the Church and its outreach to vulnerable populations. The message from the Pontiff came as the U.S.-based organization marked its 50th anniversary, highlighting the importance of charitable work, particularly during the Lenten season.

In a message delivered on Friday, March 13, 2026, Pope Leo XIV thanked FADICA for its generous contributions to various dicasteries of the Roman Curia, as well as Catholic initiatives in the United States and around the world. The Pope’s message underscores the Church’s commitment to social justice and care for those in necessitate, a theme central to his papacy.

The Pontiff noted that FADICA’s anniversary coincides with Lent, a time when Catholics are called to intensify their prayers, fasting, and acts of mercy. “Jesus taught us that, when discerning how to facilitate our neighbor, we must imitate the example of the Good Samaritan, who altruistically donated his time and resources to someone he had never met before,” Pope Leo XIV wrote. This parable, he added, reveals “the style of God,” which his predecessor, Pope Francis, often summarized as “proximity, compassion, and tenderness.”

According to the Pontiff, assisting those in need, particularly those unable to reciprocate, allows individuals to develop into instruments of the Lord, as “every act of love towards one’s neighbor is, in a certain way, a reflection of divine charity.” The Pope also emphasized that FADICA’s work in supporting programs that promote social justice, strengthen Catholic education, and uphold human dignity embodies this divine charity.

Pope Leo XIV concluded his message by expressing his hope that FADICA’s work would inspire others to encounter Christ through service to those in need and a greater participation in the Church’s mission. He assured the organization of his prayers and imparted his Apostolic Blessing as a sign of peace and joy in the Lord.
