Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has condemned the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus as a serious crime, calling it an act of terrorism and demanding a full investigation to identify those responsible.
“This is terrorism, isn’t it? A barbaric act. We must pursue it, we must investigate it, we must investigate it,” Prabowo said during a discussion with journalists and analysts on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
The president emphasized that the investigation should not stop with the perpetrators on the ground, but should extend to those who ordered and financed the attack. The case underscores the government’s commitment to addressing violent acts against activists.

“Who ordered it, who paid for it,” he stated.
When asked about the possibility of state involvement, Prabowo assured that there would be no protection for the perpetrators, even if they were from official institutions. “Of course. I guarantee it, but the opposite. If these provocateurs are not from the government, not from the authorities, then we must investigate them as well,” he said.
Prabowo similarly gave assurances that the government would not tolerate such acts of violence. “Believe me, I will not allow things like this to happen. Believe me, I was chosen by the people to defend the people, but we must be vigilant. I ask that it be investigated properly until we find the actors,” he added.
Regarding a timeline for the investigation, Prabowo deferred to law enforcement agencies, stating that both the police and other relevant authorities should be allowed to perform professionally. “I am a realistic and fair person. In terms of capacity, let us allow them to work. But it’s not just the police; many other agencies must also work,” he explained.
The president also indicated openness to the formation of an independent team to investigate the case, provided it remains truly neutral. “People can consider it, as long as We see independent, not comprised of all NGOs that are already prejudiced against the government and receive money from abroad,” he said.
