JAKARTA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has warned citizens to prepare for economic hardship as the conflict in the Middle East escalates.
The President issued the caution Monday, March 9, 2026, whereas inaugurating the Bailey and Armco bridges in Aceh, according to reports. The warning comes amid growing international concern over the potential for wider regional instability following recent exchanges between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
“We are not sheltering behind existing systems. We are facing difficulties with the attitude of wanting to overcome them. We must be brave in overcoming difficulties. We are not covering up difficulties, we are not pretending there are no difficulties,” Prabowo said.
While acknowledging the challenges ahead, Prabowo emphasized the government’s resolve to confront them directly. He expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s inherent strength as a nation.
“We have great strength. But I must also be honest with all the people, and I will give a briefing to the entire Indonesian nation in the near future,” he added.
Prabowo underscored the global impact of the Middle East conflict, noting that the repercussions would be felt worldwide. This statement reflects a growing awareness among global leaders of the interconnectedness of international affairs and the potential for cascading effects from regional conflicts.
“We must be frank, the people must be prepared to face difficulties,” Prabowo stated. “But today I am proud that, once again, the Republic of Indonesia, where the National Armed Forces is one of the main pillars, has proven to all the people that the TNI is the army of the people.”
The President’s remarks signal a proactive approach to managing the potential fallout from the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, prioritizing transparency and national preparedness.
