Gianluca Prestianni responded early Wednesday to accusations made by Vinícius Jr. During Tuesday’s Champions League match between Benfica and Real Madrid.
The Brazilian forward alleges that the Argentinian player racially insulted him, calling him “mono,” which translates to “monkey” in Spanish.
Prestianni took to social media to deny the claims.
"I want to clarify that at no point did I racially insult Vinícius Jr., who unfortunately misinterpreted something he thought he heard," Prestianni stated.
Prestianni reacts on Instagram
"I have never been racist towards anyone and I regret the threats I have received from Real Madrid players," the Argentinian wrote.
Benfica as well released a statement saying “Together, by your side” in solidarity with their number 25.
