Key responsibilities of the Municipal Health Department include managing the Municipal Health System, defining and implementing Municipal Health Policy in line with the Unified Health System (SUS) guidelines, and ensuring the operation of the Municipal Health Council and Health Conferences.
The department also oversees the Municipal Health Fund, controls and monitors public and private health services contracted with the SUS, and coordinates and executes health surveillance actions – including sanitary, epidemiological, environmental, and occupational health.
