Pro-Ject Audio Systems is expanding its turntable lineup with the Debut Reference 10, a new flagship model designed to compete with higher-complete competitors. The launch, announced on February 20, 2026, coincides with a shift in the company’s U.S. Distribution strategy, signaling a move to elevate the brand’s presence in the American market.
The Debut Reference 10 features a 10-inch tonearm constructed from a carbon fiber and aluminum composite, a design element typically found in more expensive turntables. This new model builds on the success of the Debut series, which began in 1999 and has become known for its blend of performance and affordability. The company’s founder, Heinz Lichtenegger, established Pro-Ject in 1991, initially bucking the trend towards compact discs to focus on the resurgence of vinyl records.
The turntable’s design incorporates a sleek matte black finish with acrylic accents. Pro-Ject has maintained a reputation for delivering high sound quality and durability within the mid-range market, and the Debut Reference 10 aims to build on that legacy. The new model also includes the Pick it Pro Balanced cartridge and a Mini XLR balanced output, allowing for a balanced signal path from the cartridge to the phono stage, potentially reducing noise and improving signal integrity. This feature requires a compatible balanced phono preamp to function.
Alongside the product launch, Pro-Ject announced a new exclusive distribution partnership in the U.S. With Stereo Distribution LLC, effective March 1, 2026. This move marks a departure from the previous arrangement within the McIntosh Group ecosystem, which included brands like McIntosh, Sumiko, and Sonus faber under the Bose Luxury Group umbrella. The change in distribution strategy suggests Pro-Ject is seeking greater control and focus within the crucial U.S. Market.
The Debut Reference 10’s technical specifications include a diamond-cut aluminum bearing block, a matte acrylic platter, and adjustable VTA and azimuth settings. The turntable also includes a leveling bubble for precise setup. The company offers both a 78 RPM belt for older records and a standard round belt for 33⅓ and 45 RPM playback. The turntable is priced at approximately $1,200.
