Constantin Rădulescu, leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in Vâlcea County and current president of the Vâlcea County Council, is urging his party to swiftly approve the 2026 national budget. He argues that the delay is hindering investment at the local level. The PSD’s postponement of the budget, linked to a two-month delay in administrative reform, has created frustration among mayors and county council presidents, who are unable to finalize their local budgets without a national framework.

“The budget must be adopted even if We see unfair to administration and mayors, unfair to vulnerable people and those who need social protection,” Rădulescu, the head of the PSD in Vâlcea, stated on Monday, adding that it is “very, very late” and local administrations are unable to begin many planned investments, according to Agerpres.
“This government, formed by parties of the left, right and center, had only one major obligation at the beginning of the year: to come up with the budget. No one stopped the Prime Minister from convening the meeting and having the budget approved in January. Or at least in February, because now it is extremely late. The truth is simple: responsibility belongs to the one who leads. The one we, the PSD, supported to be there. Unfortunately, he did not take our opinions into account. He decided alone, on the principle that he is always right and that he is the savior. I don’t want to make a political process. It’s not a time for internal settlements. We take responsibility for that. But that’s why we say now, unequivocally: ENOUGH! It’s time to call things by their name. We need to wake up. We need to look at the people. Because the people voted and this coalition is the result of democracy,” Rădulescu said Monday in a post on the Vâlcea PSD branch’s Facebook page.
He specified that the PSD must take responsibility for this coalition and adopt this budget “with the hope that it will be corrected, perhaps, by a future government formula.”
“The reality in counties and municipalities is serious. Local budgets will be adopted only by May. And an investment tender takes between three and six months, which means that procedures will begin only in June. And then we will discover, with regret, that some works will not be able to start this year. We, in administration, tried to prepare in advance, with procedures in advance and suspensive clauses. The country should have had a budget at the beginning of the year, not halfway through it. For this delay and for the unfair things that have been done to the country, we will discuss, we will analyze and we will take measures after the adoption of the budget. But until then, Romanians expect the PSD to be the responsible party and the party that cares about the country. No matter how much we are criticized by ‘tonomates,’ ‘bots,’ ‘robots’ and so on,” added the PSD Vâlcea leader.
The call for swift action from a key regional PSD leader underscores the growing tensions within the Romanian governing coalition as budget delays threaten local development projects. Rădulescu’s strong statement reflects a broader concern among local officials about the impact of the stalled budget on infrastructure and public services.
