Qatar has not been attacked since Thursday, according to a spokesperson for the country’s foreign ministry, Majid Al-Ansari. The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent exchanges between Iran and Israel.
Yet, Al-Ansari added, “We are still in the eye of the storm.”
Neighboring countries to Qatar continue to be targeted by Iran, Al-Ansari said. “We have been subjected to over 200 drone attacks. We reserve the right to respond. No decision has yet been made on whether to take countermeasures,” he stated.
Qatar, which has acted as a mediator in conflicts such as the war in Gaza, is not currently participating in mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, according to Al-Ansari. The development underscores Qatar’s focus on its own security in the face of escalating regional instability.
“Our focus is on stopping the attacks against our country and defending our territory,” he said.
