Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon Wear Elite, a fresh flagship processor designed for wearable devices. The chip introduces the “Elite” branding, signifying enhanced performance and artificial intelligence capabilities and will power next-generation WearOS smartwatches as well as emerging AI-powered wearables like pins and pendants. The platform similarly supports both Android and Linux operating systems.

According to Qualcomm, the Wear Elite delivers up to a five-fold increase in single-threaded CPU performance and up to a seven-fold improvement in GPU performance compared to the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 2. This leap in processing power comes alongside a 30% improvement in battery life and charging speeds that can reach 50% in under ten minutes. The new chip is manufactured using a 3nm process, a move that enhances both speed and efficiency.

The Snapdragon Wear Elite features a five-core CPU configuration – one high-performance core clocked at 2.1GHz and four efficiency cores at 1.9GHz – alongside a dedicated co-processor. This marks the first time a Snapdragon wearable processor has included a dedicated Hexagon NPU capable of supporting AI models with up to two billion parameters and delivering up to 12 TOPS of processing power. The integration of this powerful NPU is expected to unlock new “personal AI experiences,” such as context-aware recommendations and natural voice interactions.

Connectivity options include 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) for lower latency and extended battery life, as well as support for NB-NTN (Narrowband Non-Terrestrial Networks) in areas without cellular coverage. The chip also supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, UWB, and dual-band GNSS. Qualcomm notes that manufacturers can choose versions of the chip without some of these wireless features. The advancements in connectivity and power efficiency reflect a broader trend toward more versatile and long-lasting wearable technology.

The first devices powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite are expected to ship in the coming months, with support from leading manufacturers including Samsung, Google, and Motorola. You can discover more information about the new chip on Qualcomm’s website and in reports from GSMArena.
